Let us entertain you!!!

Many congratulations to the owners and staff at the reopened Felixstowe Pier - not only does the new Pier look fabulous they've reopened it ahead of schedule which is fantastic news for Felixstowe Seafront. As another privately owned entertainment venue we can appreciate how much work is involved in undertaking a project like this which enhances the entertainment on offer in our glorious seaside town. We hope that many people from all across Suffolk and beyond will come and visit our new-look resort and see for themselves the fantastic entertainment venues now open for you all to enjoy. These privately funded projects (The Spa Pavilion and the Felixstowe Pier) rely on your support to continue for generations to enjoy so do come on down, enjoy the sunshine and sea air and see what the new-look town and seafront of Felixstowe has to offer.

All Aboard the Seaside Special

Many thanks to the 100's of people who came out to cheer us and the rest of the procession on, we had a lovely time. Thanks also to our staff here for creating such a colourful and eye-catching debut float -they spent many long hours and late nights, coming up with a design and putting it all together and they did us proud. Thanks also to Leo Shavers and Andy Leach from the Great British Seaside Special show (with us Thurs 3 and Thurs 17 Aug show starts at 2.15pm) for adding some showbiz pizzazz to our float. We loved the whole atmosphere of the day and hope to do it all again this time next year!! Tickets for the Great British Seaside Special - a fantastic, heartwarming, funny and feel-good show suitable for all ages - are selling like hot cakes! You can buy them on line here by clicking on our What's On pages or call our lovely box office ladies on 01394 284962 for more details - children's tickets are only £5!

Suki to make her Carnival Debut

Felixstowe Carnival, on Saturday 22nd July is set to be the best yet with a variety of fun and colourful floats, however it’s going to be packed with even more great entertainment this year. We are delighted to announce we are planning to take part for the first time with our very own Spa Pavilion Theatre float as part of the procession.

Ray Anderson, Director of the Spa said “Last year we sponsored the Carnival Royalty and this year we are very excited to announce we will be taking part in the parade. Our float will be heavily based on the summer variety shows theme with lots of traditional seaside fun happening on board. They’ll also be plenty of giveaways and music to entertain the crowds.”

The entertainment for the float comes ready made in the form of cast from our forthcoming show The Great British Seaside Special which is due at the Spa in August for two matinee performances (3rd and 17th August). The cast from the show will be in colourful costume and fine voice and helping to add some more pizzazz to the procession.

Our new Mayor of Felixstowe, Cllr Nick Barber said of our involvement this year,

"It is fantastic news for the Town to see the Spa Pavilion thriving. I am also pleased to see them entering this year’s Felixstowe Carnival Procession for the first time."

Suki the Spa’s mascot will also be making her Felixstowe Carnival debut, so bring your little ones and you might even get a chance for a ‘Suki Selfie’ before the procession gets going.

Tickets for the Great British Seaside Special – a fun-filled afternoon of variety with comedy, music, dance and magic and suitable for the whole family are now on sale via www.felixstowespa.co.uk or by calling our lovely Box Office ladies on 01394 284962.

We're currently in the process of designing our own float and looking at all sorts of different concepts to inspire our design.  Hope to see you there!

Three more weekend hideaways

In the summer we wrote about the many great places there are to stay in Suffolk which are also handy for us here at the Spa Pavilion. Therefore if you want to come and see one of our shows you could perhaps stop over for the night and turn your night out into a mini break. Well with that in mind as those dark nights start to draw in and we wait for our Christmas parties to arrive here's three more places which might tempt you to try a winter break here in Suffolk.

Here at the Spa Pavilion in Felixstowe also have not just one but two licensed cafe bars offering pipping hot, home-cooked foods and deliciously warming mugs of freshly brewed teas and coffees plus hot chocolate too. Both have amazing views of the sea which is opposite both restaurants. We are an excellent base to set off from to roam along prom or scale the Spa Gardens or perhaps to head into Felixstowe town just above us for a bargain or two.  All are within a few minutes walk and don't forget you can come back to us to warm up again after your exploring.

Winter stop-over suggestions

The Station Hotel is in Ipswich and as the name suggests is literally opposite Ipswich Station. It backs onto the Gipping river and it's 14 bedrooms are equipped with wi-fi. The bar offers a range of beverages including a selection of the finest malt whiskeys, imported wines and various guest ales. You can walk to the Football ground home of ITFC from there and also into Ipswich Town Centre.

Travel out of Ipswich towards the West of the County along the A14 and you'll come across both Needham Market and Stowmarket. The Limes Hotel is in Needham Market along the High Street. With its own car park at the back, this hotel is also only  a short walk from the train station, with good road links to the A12/A14. Their rooms have been modernised for comfort in mind whilst retaining original features of the beautiful, 16th century hotel. These include beams from ships, open fire places, and watch out for the quirky floors.

Finally continue along the A14 and you'll see the turning for Stowmarket and follow the signs to the Cedars Hotel just on the outskirts of this market town. With 25 ensuite rooms this hotel was originally built as a farmhouse, the independent hotel has, in recent years been refurbished and extended to offer the comfort and facilities of a modern hotel whilst retaining its charm, character and warmth. Click on the image below to see more pictures from all three of these great places to stay.

Voted Best - it's official!

We've had a wonderful week here at the Spa. This month we heard we were finalists in the Suffolk Coastal Community & Business Awards for Best New Business of the Year. Last Thursday night we were invited to go along to The Hangar at Milsom's Kesgrave Hall to enjoy an awards night along with many other local businesses. We were delighted to find out we were in fact the winners of this category and we'd like to thank Suffolk Coastal District Council for choosing the Team here at the Spa as the overall winners. Director for the Spa Pavilion, Ray Anderson says “We were amazed. It was wonderful to be nominated as finalists and so to win was the icing on the cake for us. This award is a testament to all of the hard work put in by the whole team here at the Spa. To open a theatre and keep it attractive to top name acts is big challenge, especially for an independent. We can’t do it without the support of our audiences. We hope that with our packed Autumn lineup just announced, people will continue to vote by booking tickets and helping us to keep live entertainment by the sea.” For full details of our shows coming up click here or call our box office from 11am – 4pm 01394 284962.

Follow in Cardinal Wolsey's Steps

If you are looking to enjoy a show here at the Spa and want to stay over night how about staying where Cardinal Wolsey once stayed? It would mean a short drive but its worth the travel.

College Farm is an arable farm set in the peaceful Suffolk countryside, just 6 miles west of Ipswich on the A1071 to Hadleigh. The Grade II Listed farmhouse is a 500-year-old beamed tudor building which was once owned by Cardinal Wolsey in King Henry VIII's time. It has been carefully modernised over the years, but still retains its character with oak beams, inglenook fireplace, sloping floors and low doorways.

The house stands in a large garden which guests are welcome to relax in, and is surrounded by fields and meadows in a quiet part of the farm. You may walk the marked footpaths on the farm to enjoy the Roses by their front door plus the scenery and wildlife, or play golf, go fishing or horse riding which are all close by. Check out their website for full details and availability.

Camping in the Forest

Rendlesham Forest, is set just outside of Woodbridge in Suffolk and is an idyllic setting whether you have a tent, touring caravan or motorhome.

Forest Camping, Tangham Campsite is a family run campsite welcoming tents, touring caravans, motorhomes and campervans. The site is a level, well drained, 2.8 hectare (7 acre) field set in the heart of Rendlesham Forest, Suffolk (Forestry Commission). The forest is a great place for you to enjoy wildlife, nature and stargazing. At any time you may see deer, squirrels, rabbits and birds, you may also hear the Nightingale song around May time.

With plenty of fresh air and open space you can enjoy walking and cycling on their doorstep with six way marked trails ranging from 0.75 miles to 11 miles. The most popular trail is the 3 mile way marked circular walk through the forest to the famous 1980's UFO site, starting at Rendlesham Forest Centre car park. You might even discover a strange craft has landed there!

Straight down the middle

In Suffolk we have a great selection of golf courses to choose from and all just a fee tees away from the Spa Theatre. Fynn Valley Golf Club is set in the rolling countryside of rural Suffolk in Witnesham, near Ipswich and is a friendly, family run Club where members and visitors enjoy the extensive golfing facilities as well as the thriving social side of the game.

In addition to the picturesque parkland 18 hole course, the club offers a 9 hole course, 22 bay floodlit covered golf range, practise greens and bunker, golf lessons, two golf shops and extensive clubhouse facilities set in converted Edwardian farm buildings.

The perfect rural Suffolk location, yet only a 5 minute drive from the county town of Ipswich. Check out their website for green fees and full details of the facilities on offer.

Soak up Suffolk

If you'd like to experience a real slice of Suffolk what better way to do so than in a traditional Suffolk holiday cottage? Or get a group of you together, perhaps the whole family and hire an authentic 300 year old Suffolk barn. Wood Farm Barns have both to choose from. All of their cottages are dog-friendly which is great as the Suffolk countryside has a vast array of places to walk. From woodland and farmland, to heathland, and also long stretches of the Heritage Coast - all in the one County!

Some of their cottages also have hot tubs too - check out their website for full details and video tours of each of their delightful properties and availability too.

Felixstowe Beach Life

The summer is upon us and we often forget to celebrate all that we can offer our friends and family with our fabulous beaches and beyond…

Felixstowe has a beach for everyone. Four miles of sand and shingle, with some of the best water quality around Suffolk too. Enjoy a picnic on the sands. Bring your bucket and spade and create a magnificent sandcastle masterpiece. Take a little paddle, or a full refreshing dip in the sea. Play some seaside games. Go beachcombing... shells, starfish and mermaid purses.

A stroll along the prom will take you past award-winning gardens and multi-coloured beach huts. Make sure you stop off to tuck into a cooling artisan ice cream or some yummy fish and chips. Look out for our Visit Felixstowe beach hut Tourist Information Points (near the Town Hall and Manning’s Amusements) where you can pick up useful information and maps.

Don’t forget to bring your loose change for our traditional seafront arcades, and try your luck on a ‘penny pusher’ or ‘grab arm’ to win a teddy or two. At Ocean Boulevard, kids will love the all new drifting karts, the first of their kind in the UK, or why not challenge yourself to a round of Adventure Golf, amongst the flowers and lost world statues? Set right beside the sea, Martello Park is the place to swing, slide, climb and get wet with fun play areas and water fountains.

A great way to explore is to jump aboard the Felixstowe Open Top Bus Tour, running Sunday 24 July to Wednesday 31 August. Hop on or off at six different stops with tickets valid all day.

Don’t miss the Felixstowe Carnival on Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 July, with its colourful procession of floats and bands, followed by live music, family entertainment, stalls and fireworks on the seafront. Later in the month on Sunday 31 July, dig out your best swashbuckling costume for the fund-raising Pirates on the Prom, whilst on Saturday 27 August, zoom down the prom for over 100 shiny hot rods and custom cars. A short family cycle ride away is the hugely popular Landguard Peninsula. Join in the fun Summer Holiday Trail (Friday 22 July to Wednesday 31 August) at the historic Landguard Fort, where you can also play a game of hide and seek in the maze of rooms and passageways.
