John is an Abstract artist in acrylics who has spent his entire life perfecting his method. He lives now in Suffolk, close to Orford, but was born in London and spent many years in France creating wines as a sideline to painting. John applies paint freely on canvas or board, beginning often with a memory of a landscape that suggests forms and colours to his mind’s eye. He plays with the paint until his desired effect is created and ruthlessly destroys those attempts he is unhappy with.

John’s work brings to mind the light and breadth of Turner, who is his greatest inspiration. There are clear references to Rothko, Gorky and Chagall throughout his work, but in his colour and method there is a truly unique style. John is collected at home and abroad, currently experiencing strong interest in his work.

Admission is free.
