Come What May – “A night to remember at the Spa Pavilion Felixstowe”

A Review by Laura Locke, of Felixstowe Radio - Sunday 29th January, 2023

It’s always interesting when a large group gathers to see a show or experience an event. We have all seen the same performance, but we all come away with different responses. And I guess that is the mark of good entertainment. One woman’s meat and all that …

Robin Windsor and his troupe of singers and dancers really know how to put on a spectacular show and we all came away with smiles on our faces and different favourites to recall.

Sunday night in an out-of-season seaside resort in mid winter; the waves are crashing and the temperatures have dropped, and it is so tempting to stay in front of the fire. But the Moulin Rouge came to Felixstowe tonight and a packed audience had abandoned the fireside and were certainly out for a good time.

Pizzazz, razzamatazz, showtunes and ‘Strictly’ quality dancers, sexy sparkling costumes, - how exciting to be able to experience all this in our home town theatre, the Spa Pavilion.

Number by number, the professional dancers and singers treated us to a veritable treat of musical magic – feathers flying and rhinestones flashing. From the jive to the tango, and Elton John’s Saturday to The Rhythm of the Night and Burlesque.

Ashley Cavendar, our cheeky MC, played the audience with great humour – one minute singing Madonna’s Like a Virgin with a surprise reveal, the next duetting with the enormous vocals of Alice Ellen Wright!

I particularly liked Ron Remke, who sung the theme tune Come What May amongst other songs, and would have loved to hear more of his beautiful tones.

Stand out number has to be the Can-Can - once they had executed the exciting dance with enormous energy, the dancers proceeded to provide extremely fast arm antics on the edge of the stage.

All the dancers, with Robin Windsor’s amazing contributions, were eye-wateringly agile. From high kicks to the ears, to doing the splits lifted high on the shoulders of two males, the dancers are all highly professional, versatile and flexible. At the beginning of a tour with, I believe, over 60 gigs to perform, it is difficult to imagine that this company can sustain the energy and dynamism they treated the Felixstowe audience to tonight. But as they return to Suffolk over the tour – in Lowestoft on 22 March and Bury St Edmunds on 1st April, perhaps there may be a chance for you to find out!
